audrey: This Blog seems a good idea. Look forward to lots of comments. I'm looking forward to seeing you all on a bright sunny day at Old Harry soon.
Gil: The most useful piece of kit I have so far is my Lightwriter as it provides me with a means of communication. It is of particular use when I'm with people who have difficulty understanding what I'm trying to say.. It displays text as I type and also has a playback feature which is quite handy if the text ihas gone beyond the screen display.
mike: I wonder what people think is the best tip or piece of kit they have found for retaining independence. I will start the ball rolling by suggesting my whole body hot air dryer which stands in the corner of the shower and cuts out the need for towels which I can no longer manipulate. Takes a bit longer but I am still able to handle all my personal hygiene

I now live in Merley, Dorset and have been in Dorset since 1985. We moved down here from St N eots in Cambridgeshire. In 1995 I had to give up work on ill health grounds. In 1999 I was diagnosed with Primary Lateral Sclerosis (PLS) which is a rare form of Motor Neurone Disease. Since having to give up work we haved moved a couple of times to get accommodation that was easily adaptable to my needs. I have taken up new hobbies, the main one being water colour painting which I started when I first went to the Lewis Manning Hospice at Sandbanks, Poole.

I belong to the East Dorset and New Forest branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA). The branch is very active and has numerous fundraising events throughout the year, has outings, and runs coffee mornings (get togethers) on a regular basis where people have a chat, exchange information etc. I run the branch website and newsletter so I think they can also be counted as "hobbies" as I enjoy the challenges to try and make them interesting.

I hope to continue doing all these things, and more, for as long as possible
