audrey: This Blog seems a good idea. Look forward to lots of comments. I'm looking forward to seeing you all on a bright sunny day at Old Harry soon.
Gil: The most useful piece of kit I have so far is my Lightwriter as it provides me with a means of communication. It is of particular use when I'm with people who have difficulty understanding what I'm trying to say.. It displays text as I type and also has a playback feature which is quite handy if the text ihas gone beyond the screen display.
mike: I wonder what people think is the best tip or piece of kit they have found for retaining independence. I will start the ball rolling by suggesting my whole body hot air dryer which stands in the corner of the shower and cuts out the need for towels which I can no longer manipulate. Takes a bit longer but I am still able to handle all my personal hygiene

Welcome to our new Branch Blog.

  • Mood: Excited!

This Blog is a new idea for the group and I sincerely hope that it gets used in the right way.  It is a means of reading other peoples views, comments, items of interest etc that people in the group, or from other groups, may want to share with others.  This is my first attempt at this so any comments on the layout etc would always be well received and can be made by posting the comments on the Blog or by emailing me.

Fortunately due to the bad weather of late I have been able to set this up and play around with it a bit .  If there are spelling mistakes etc than blame it on technology as I haven't found a spell checker on it as yet.

I am looking forward to seeing postings on this soon so please use and enjoy it.

Gil

Hi Mike: Thanks for that info. I assume you have a walk in shower and maybe stand in it. Is it adjustable for drying your hair and can it be used if your shower is above the bath and you sit on a bath board for your shower?

It is a walk in shower and it could be set up for a bath but there is a new triton one that sits overhead and has a remote that might be more successful. You know me do I look like someone who uses a hairdryer?:-?

A week back we came home from our annual trip to Scotland to stay with friends. Weather wasn't brilliant but we got out and about to the Edinburgh Tattoo and also Stirling and St Andrews to see the Castles and the Abbey ruins at St Andrews. Flights were good both ways except this time we went in a plane with propellors, yes they still operate them. The getting on and off at Southampton was good as they use a proper lift to get to the aircraft door but at Edinburgh, which is a larger airport, a 'carry' on and off was literally that. I was strapped in a special aisle chair and was literally carried down a steep set of steps by 2 burly Scotsmen. Not sommething for the fainthearted!! Something to remember if you're planning a trip to Scotland and you're flying via Edinburgh from Southampton. Despite the 'iffy' weather etc we had a great time and as always the people there were very friendly

We've only had 7 entries on this Blog for ages. There must be somebody out there who views this but doesn't bother to post comments. It would be nice if other people used this either to say something that may be of interest to our branch members or for branch members to record events of interest like holidays etc. Surely I'm, not the only person to look at this Blog. Yours hopefully . gIL

Best wishes,

Hi Everyone, there is an'Access 2 Exercise' event coming up in Eastleigh on 28th April which may be of interest to some of you. I know it's a way to go but several people with MND recommnded it from last year, and it's only one junction on the M27 from the big Marks and Spencers! More details can be found at www.access2exercise.org.uk

We'll be in N Ireland on that date which is a shame. We're meeting up with ex RAF friends that we haven't seen for 40+ years, looking forward to that.

I used to live in Eastleigh, in the late 50's, in St. John's Rd just opposite a pub, very handy.:)

I recommend people to go for an environmental assessment. It is a long process but nearing the end I have an all-in-one Possum remote that operates lamps, fan, TV cable Box and DVD player, has a one touch speaker phone and a spare connection (for m next gadget?). I also have automatic openers on 3 doors which is handy and am awaiting a toilet that washes you, dries you and leaves a smile on your face. All I need now is an automatic sock putter onner!

:-( Hi everyone, just wanted to let you know that I will be leaving my post in June as we are moving to France. Although we are excited about our new adventure, I am very sad to be leaving, I've really enjoyed meeting you all. Hopefully we will have a new RCDA before too long. Hope to see you at the May meeting at Canford, Karen x

Well done on the updated website Gil. I particularly like the Art Exhibition. It must have taken ages to get that all flowing so nicely. It really is very special and worthy of another OSCARR this year.

Thanks Audrey, it did take a while but I had it in waiting for the software licence to come through. There will be more of that done over a period of time.
